How to show columns forcefully which have blank (or NULL) value for a row in Tableau

I am using Sample-Superstore data set to state the scenario and its solution.

Let’s first create a table which have Categories in columns and days of Order date as rows showing Profit. Filter out it for one month of a year, so I am showing data for December 2014.

How to show columns forcefully which have blank (or NULL) value for a row1

There are missing values on few days for one or two categories.

Suppose if there is a requirement to show only one row for 27th Dec, let’s do it by creating a calculated field:

So see what happened, the Categories which have NULL value are not getting displayed. If we want to display all categories, whether it has value or it is empty:

Follow below steps:

Go to Analysis Tab -> Table Layout -> Show Empty Columns

How to show columns forcefully which have blank (or NULL) value for a row3

How to show columns forcefully which have blank (or NULL) value for a row4

Similarly we can do for Empty rows also.

    • Hi Irfan,

Yeah, you can show 0 in place of blank values. Just you need to create a calculated field and use function ZN() (e.g ZN(Sales)) and use this calculated field in place of actual filed (e.g Sales). This will show 0 if value is NULL.
